Avro
Vulcan B2 XL388 of No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron making a brake parachute
landing at RAF Waddington circa 1978. 'Land and Streams' on the V-Force
9000 ft runways or even the fighter 7500 ft runways were not normally
required though they were practiced regularly. The usual technique was
to land and stream the 'chute below 135 knots though photographs exist
(not mine) of the 'chute fully deployed before touchdown. The 'chute could
be streamed at a maximum of 145 knots but if streamed above 135 knots,
it had to be examined before reuse.
