Vulcan B2 XM570 of No 27 Squadron at Goose Bay circa 1975. 570 was was
originally delivered to No 27 Squadron in 1963 as a B2 Blue Steel and
was pooled into the Scampton Wing. In 1966, surplus to the requirements
of the Wing, 570 was converted to free-fall, subsequently serving on the
Cottesmore and Akrotiri wings before returning to No 27 Squadron in the
MRR (maritime radar reconnaissance) role in 1974 (though remaining a standard
B2). In 1976, 570 was transferred to No 35 Squadron and remained at Scampton
until it was scrapped at St Athan in 1982. Note in the photograph that
570 had previously been fitted with TFR (terrain-following radar) but
the pod had been removed and the nose faired over.
