An Avro Vulcan B2 approaching touch-down circa 1968. The aircraft has been identified by Craig Bulman, author of The Vulcan B.Mk2 from a Different Angle >> as XL446 of No 230 OCU, RAF Finningley. Built as a Mk2 Blue Steel, 446 was delivered to No 27 Squadron in November 1962 and absorbed into the Scampton Wing. Surplus to requirements in 1965, 446 was converted to free-fall and delivered to the Waddington Wing in 1966 and then to 230 OCU at the end of 1967. 446 moved to Scampton in 1972 and later that year was transferred to the Akrotiri Wing. When the Wing disbanded in 1975, 446 returned with No 35 Squadron to RAF Scampton. 446 transferred to No 617 Squadron in 1978 and was briefly back on 35 before being scrapped in 1982.
