Vulcan B2 XM599 of No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron at RAF Waddington in August 1979. 599 had participated in the 1978 Giant Voice SAC bombing and navigation competition in the USA and the area where the aircraft had been 'zapped' with a SAC crest can be seen on the radome between the TFR pod and the roundel. 599 was delivered to No 35 Squadron in October 1963 and was pooled into the Coningsby, later Cottesmore Wing. Transferred to the Waddington Wing in January 1968, 599 was issued to 101 Squadron in May 1972, 50 Squadron in March 1977, and 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron in June 1979. 599 was scrapped at St Athan in 1982.
