The underside of Vulcan B2 XH558 at Hanger 4 at Waddington in 1992 shortly before being retired to Bruntingthorpe. The single drum tank at the rear of the bomb bay was non-standard and normally prohibited. 558 had previously been converted to a K2 from a B2 MRR. When the hose-unit drum-unit was removed during conversion back to a B2, the ECM cans were not replaced and the centre of gravity was shifted aft to compensate by fitting the drum tank in the rear position. To the left is the nose of Valiant XD875. To the middle right is a drum bomb bay tank. © L Braithwaite. |
