Vulcan B2 Blue Steel XL386 of the Scampton Wing at Goose Bay in 1968. 386 is carrying a W103A Blue Steel training round. 386 was originally delivered to the RAF as a 201-series-engined free-fall aircraft but with the remainder of the batch XL384-390 was removed from service, re-engined with Olympus 301 engines and fitted for Blue Steel. The reason why these seven extra airframes were required was because the Blue Steel aircraft of the Scampton Wing had to enter a retrofit programme and unit establishment needed to be maintained.
