Vulcan B2 XL391 in a very poor state at Blackpool Airport in 2001. Several Vulcans were sold off in the early 80s and whilst some have been lavishly attended to, others have not and it seems impossible that 391 can survive the scrapman's torch much longer. 391 was the first Vulcan to be constructed from new with 301 engines which delayed its delivery in 1963 by some 10 months. 391 was used for trials until it was transferred to the Cottesmore Wing in 1968. It moved with the Wing to Cyprus before returning to Waddington in 1975, being allocated to IX, 101 and finally 44 (Rhodesia) Squadrons.
