Here's a reminder to all those who reproduce squadron badges that the 'approved' version of 44(R)'s badge, give or take a crown, is shown above. For seemingly political reasons, the last standard presented to the Squadron had the word 'RHODESIA' missing from it which caused much upset. In spite of pressure from above to stop using the word, a contemporary squadron commander bravely commented that since King George VI had approved the word 'Rhodesia', it would need the authority of someone of equal rank to order otherwise. The stalemate was solved when the Squadron disbanded.
