Avro Vulcan B2 XL391 of No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron 1982. Being the first Vulcan B2 to be fitted from new with Olympus 301 engines, 391's debut was delayed and the aircraft received certain modifications that were incorporated in just 16 later aircraft (XM597-612): the 'complete' Skybolt attachment points. Consequently in 1982 when such aircraft were required for Black Buck missions in the Falklands' War, 391 was one of a handful of suitable aircraft that had not been retired.

Though never deployed south, 391 was fitted with underwing pylons and its underside painted dark sea grey with its unit markings removed. In these colours, 391 was transferred to No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron in July 1982 and was fitted with the squadron badge but no City of Lincoln crest. 391 retained these markings until retired at Blackpool in February 1983.
