Avro Vulcan B2 XM595 of the Scampton Wing with No 27 Squadron markings. The date is probably 1971. It was in that year when the 'Dumbo' insignia was first applied. 27 Squadron disbanded in March 1972 and 595 continued to be flown by No 617 Squadron. The rudder would appear to have been robbed from another aircraft that had the earlier 'fuzzy-edged' camouflage. When 27 Squadron reformed in November 1973, aircraft were marked with a black indian elephant on a white background though this was replaced by a 'Dumbo' badge redrawn accurately copying the cuter Disney original.
