No 230 OCU at RAF Waddington in December 1956 with XA895. 895 was delivered in August 1956. The first aircraft to be delivered to the OCU was XA897 in July 1956 but was soon returned to Woodford for preparation for the ill-fated Operation Tasman Flight. 895's existence at Waddington was brief as it became the standby aircraft for Tasman Flight and was flown from Boscombe Down on operational reliability trials. 895 arrived back on the OCU in December 1956 and the task of training Vulcan crews began. 895 was withdrawn from service and became the Vulcan B1A prototype (though never being modified to full B1A standard) being flown by the Bomber Command Development Unit and the A&AEE before being withdrawn in 1967.
